Roof of the World
The classic trail to the foot of the world’s highest mountain, via Namche, Tengboche and the Khumbu Glacier.
What Makes It Special
The Everest Base Camp Trek is a journey defined by world-famous mountain landscapes and rich Sherpa culture. From the moment you touch down on the mountain airstrip at Lukla, every step brings you closer to the giants of the planet.
You start by following glacial rivers up through vibrant Sherpa settlements and pine forests, ascending to the natural amphitheatre of Namche Bazaar. As you climb past Tengboche Monastery and enter the high alpine zone, trees give way to vast mountain vistas framed by the towering spire of Ama Dablam.
The climax of the journey takes you past massive glaciers and icefalls to Everest Base Camp. Standing on the Khumbu Glacier beneath the massive South Col and standing atop Kala Patthar at sunrise as Mount Everest glows in golden light are memories that last a lifetime.
Thrilling flights to iconic mountain trails. Sacred Sherpa monasteries to colossal glaciers. Majestic suspension bridges, world-famous viewpoints, and standing at the base of Mount Everest. Roof of the World is the ultimate Himalayan pilgrimage.
Difficulty, Season & Who It's For
Strenuous. The key challenges on this trek are extreme altitude, cold mountain air, and long walking days. Dedicated acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche are essential components built into the route to ensure a safe and successful ascent.
March|May and September|November offer the best conditions for this trip.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 01Arrive in Kathmandu
Welcome to Nepal! Our team will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in Kathmandu. After settling in, we'll have a trek briefing where your guide will explain the route, altitude, weather, equipment and preparations for the Everest Base Camp Trek.
Day 02Kathmandu / Ramechhap to Lukla & Trek to Phakding
We take an early morning flight to Lukla (2,860 m), enjoying incredible Himalayan views. After meeting our porter team at the airstrip, we begin our trek, descending through Sherpa villages along the Dudh Koshi River to reach Phakding.
Day 03Phakding to Namche Bazaar
We continue along the riverbanks, crossing high suspension bridges draped in prayer flags, including the iconic Hillary Suspension Bridge. We enter Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo before taking on the steep climb up to the bustling Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar.
Day 04Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar
An essential rest and acclimatization day. We take a morning hike to the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) or the nearby villages of Khumjung and Khunde for incredible panorama views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. The rest of the day is yours to explore Namche's bakeries, cafes, and markets.
Day 05Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
The trail offers magnificent ridge views before descending through forests to Phunki Tenga. From there, we climb up through rhododendron woods to reach Tengboche, home to the largest and most famous Buddhist monastery in the Khumbu region, set against the stunning backdrop of Ama Dablam.
Day 06Tengboche to Dingboche
We descend through birch and coniferous forest to Pangboche, walking alongside stone mani walls. As we climb above the tree line into the alpine zone, the landscape changes to open mountain valleys before we arrive at the high-altitude settlement of Dingboche.
Day 07Acclimatization Day in Dingboche
Our second vital acclimatization day. We take a steep hike up Nagarjun Hill (5,100 m) or toward Chhukung for dramatic views of Makalu, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Island Peak. Spending time at higher altitude today helps our bodies prepare for the push above 5,000 metres.
Day 08Dingboche to Lobuche
We hike along the glacial moraine valley to Thukla (Dughla). After a steep climb up Thukla Pass, we reach the poignant Everest Memorial site dedicated to fallen climbers and Sherpas. The trail then levels off along the Khumbu Glacier moraine up to Lobuche.
Day 09Lobuche to Gorak Shep & Everest Base Camp
A momentous day. We trek along the rocky moraine of the Khumbu Glacier to Gorak Shep. After a quick rest and meal, we continue across the glacial trail toward Everest Base Camp. Standing amidst prayer flags on the ice beneath the Khumbu Icefall is an unforgettable experience. We return to Gorak Shep for the night.
Day 10Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar & Descent to Pheriche
We start very early for the steep climb up Kala Patthar (5,545 m) to witness a breathtaking sunrise over Mount Everest, Nuptse, and Changtse. After descending back to Gorak Shep for breakfast, we pack up and begin our long descent out of the high alpine zone down to Pheriche.
Day 11Pheriche to Namche Bazaar
With abundant oxygen as we descend, walking feels significantly easier. We retrace our steps down through Pangboche and Tengboche, descending through rhododendron forests and climbing back up into the lively town of Namche Bazaar.
Day 12Namche Bazaar to Lukla
Our final day of walking. We descend the steep trail from Namche back down to the Hillary Suspension Bridge, following the Dudh Koshi River past Monjo and Phakding before a final uphill push to Lukla. In the evening, we celebrate the completion of our journey with our guide and porter team.
Day 13Lukla to Kathmandu / Ramechhap
We board an early morning flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu (or Ramechhap depending on seasonal airline routing). Upon arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel. The afternoon is yours to relax, shop, or visit sights.
Day 14Departure
Your Everest Base Camp adventure comes to an end. Our team will transfer you to the airport according to your flight schedule. Take home the memories, the mountain stories and hopefully a serious appetite for the next adventure.
