The River Rush
A four-day introduction to river expeditions, from Malekhu to Fishling, with a Chitwan extension option.
What Makes It Special
The Trishuli is where a rafting trip becomes an expedition.
It is close enough to Kathmandu to be accessible, but once the boats are on the water, the feeling quickly changes. The river takes us through narrow gorges, green hills, villages and exciting whitewater, with every bend bringing something new.
Over four days, we get a taste of everything that makes river expeditions special: rapids, calm stretches, riverside camps, swimming, jungle, local life and nights beneath the stars.
And the adventure does not have to end at Fishling. From the river, we can continue toward Chitwan National Park, turning a whitewater adventure into a combination of rafting and wildlife.
Four days. One river. Big rapids. Riverside camping. And the option to finish with a jungle adventure.
Difficulty, Season & Who It's For
Moderate to Challenging. River conditions can change with water levels and season, so the exact sections and difficulty may vary during the expedition.
October–December and March–May offer the best conditions for this trip.
The Trishuli is suitable for adventurous beginners as well as experienced rafters. No previous rafting experience is required for participants following the guide's instructions, although previous experience is beneficial for those who want to actively paddle through the more challenging sections.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 01Kathmandu to Malekhu: Into the River
We leave Kathmandu and drive toward Malekhu, our put-in point on the Trishuli River. After reaching the river, the crew prepares the rafts and expedition equipment while we receive a safety briefing and get ready for our first day on the water. Once everything is ready, we launch onto the Trishuli and begin our journey downstream. We spend the day getting familiar with the river, navigating the first rapids and enjoying the surrounding hills before setting up our first riverside camp. Overnight: Riverside camp\ Meals: Lunch, Snacks & Dinner\ Activity: Drive, river preparation & rafting
Day 02Whitewater & Riverside Life
We wake beside the river, have breakfast and pack camp before getting back on the water. Today we spend more time navigating the exciting sections of the Trishuli. The river cuts through green hills and narrow gorges, with a mixture of rapids and calmer stretches. Between the whitewater, there is time to relax, swim where conditions are safe and enjoy the scenery. By evening, we find a suitable riverside campsite and settle in for another night beside the river. Overnight: Riverside camp\ Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks & Dinner\ Activity: Full-day rafting & camping
Day 03Rapids, Gorges & Adventure
After breakfast, we pack camp and continue downstream. The river becomes increasingly exciting as we encounter more challenging rapids and deeper sections of the Trishuli. Working together with our guides, we navigate the whitewater before returning to calmer stretches where we can enjoy the landscape. The day ends with another riverside camp, good food and stories from the day's adventure. Overnight: Riverside camp\ Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks & Dinner\ Activity: Rafting & riverside camping
Day 04Final Rapids & Fishling
Our final day on the Trishuli brings us toward Fishling, our take-out point. We enjoy the last sections of whitewater before taking the boats out and packing the expedition equipment. After several days of river life, reaching Fishling marks the end of our Trishuli expedition. From here, you can either continue your journey back toward Kathmandu or extend the adventure with an optional Chitwan National Park experience. Meals: Breakfast & Lunch\ Activity: Final rafting day, take-out & onward travel Optional Chitwan National Park Extension Want to trade whitewater for wildlife? Instead of returning directly after the rafting expedition, extend your trip to Chitwan National Park and explore the jungles of southern Nepal. The extension can include jungle activities and wildlife experiences, giving you the chance to look for rhinos, crocodiles, deer, wild elephants and a wide variety of birdlife. Chitwan National Park extension is optional and priced separately.
